A large American multi-brand clothing company, recognized for delivering innovative fashion solutions, partnered with Avery Dennison to overcome critical supply chain challenges. This collaboration introduced cutting-edge RFID technology to streamline operations, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance business outcomes.
The Challenge
The company faced mounting operational pressures due to chargebacks from shipment inaccuracies, manual gaps in returns processing, and limited traceability in the supply chain. Additionally, unauthorized product leakage complicated inventory control, and there was no central ownership of the packing verification process at the distribution center level.
To address these obstacles, Avery Dennison implemented its RFID-powered Optica Packing Verification solution, featuring a High-Density Reading Enclosure (HDRE) integrated with the client’s existing digital platform, Infor Nexus. The system enabled precise carton-level scanning at the point of packing, real-time data syncing for order accuracy, and a streamlined verification process.
Avery Dennison also supported factory onboarding and offered tailored implementation services to ensure seamless adoption. Initial pilot results highlighted significant improvements in shipment accuracy, streamlined operations, and enhanced data quality, paving the way for a scalable solution capable of addressing global supply chain demands.
Reduced Chargebacks
By implementing Optica Packing Verification using the HDRE system, packing accuracy was significantly improved, resulting in a sharp decrease in chargebacks, particularly from key retail partners such as Amazon. Factory pilot sites quickly demonstrated enhanced shipment accuracy with orders doubling to 39 POs in one month.
Faster Verification Processes
The Packing Verification solution using HDRE technology reduced carton inspection times dramatically compared to traditional barcode workflows. This efficiency allowed for smoother processing at distribution centers, providing retailers with greater confidence in their inventory accuracy.
Conclusion
The success of this initiative has laid the foundation for expanded implementation across additional factories in Asia, as well as the integration of RFID powered Optica Inbound and Outbound Verification solutions at distribution centers. Future plans include piloting end-to-end visibility using serialized RFID and atma.io connected product cloud platform.
“This initiative has created real momentum. We’re seeing fewer errors, smoother DC processing, and more confidence from our retail partners,” noted a project stakeholder at the company.
Avery Dennison continues to lead the way in transforming supply chain performance, delivering reliable, data-driven solutions, and making visibility on demand possible for the apparel industry.
